April is the perfect time to get out in your yard and get your lawn ready for summer. With all that the weather has thrown at us over the past few months, it’s likely your patch of green is looking forlorn, with a few brown and bald patches that need repair.
But it won’t take long to get your lawn looking lush and back to its former self — all it needs is a quick five-minute fix, and it will reward you with a lawn to be proud of once more.
How to fix a bare lawn patch in five minutes

Tom Strowlger @garden_with_tom, shares in an Instagram post how to fix a bare patch in your lawn in 5 minutes. So, whether you are short of time or a reluctant gardener, there’s really no excuse why you can’t get out on your grass and bring it back to full health.

Strowlger describes this method as “a quick and simple way to repair bare patches in your lawn.” To start, he says you need to “disturb the top soil — the surface soil of the patch.”
He begins by using a small trowel to score the bare soil horizontally, diagonally and vertically. Once the soil has been disturbed, he says, “Give it a quick sprinkle of water to make the soil sticky.”
You’re then ready to sow the grass seed over the bare patch, with Strowlger recommending a quality lawn seed, such as Scotts EZ Seed.
To ensure the seed is sown evenly, Strowlger uses a seed spreader, similar to Garden Guru’s Handheld Seed Spreader, $18 at Amazon.
Once you’ve sown the seed, you’re now ready to cover it with topsoil or a lawn dressing. Strowgler says the top soil will snuggle the seed in between the layers, which will keep it moist and happy.
And he finishes, “Then you’ll have germination over the coming weeks, repairing the bare patches in your lawn.”

How to care for your lawn after seeding
The top tip to remember is to avoid walking over the freshly seeded lawn until the new grass has established, and try and keep children away, if you can!
Noah Mabey, Senior Garderner at Thornbridge Hall and Horticultural Adviser to Platinum Spas Hot Tubs, also advises, “Keep the patches lightly watered, and don’t mow for 3-4 weeks until the new growth establishes.”
And he adds, “April is one of the most rewarding months in the garden. Spend a little time on your lawn now, and it will repay you with a green, healthy carpet throughout summer.”
